My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Lazarus Ministries At Grand Avenue Temple, Kansas City, MO, USA
Lazarus Ministries has been an important part of the downtown Kansas City, MO support network for men and women in need of assistance for many years. It has meant shelter, food, clothing, spiritual support, acceptance, help navigating the red-tape of assistance, employment, counseling, and most of all a place where people can feel they belong. They provide health care exams and services not otherwise availaibe to this segment of the population. The staff is compassionate, understanding, and truly cares about the sojourners who enter their doors.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Seeing the changes in lives of those who have been served. I have walked the streets downtown with the minister in charge of Lazarus Ministries and seen his interaction with sojourners who stop to talk with him about successes and challenges in their lives. The sojournors realize the sincerity of the staff and the respect the staff shows for them.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
One of the major challenges of Lazarus Ministries is space to provide their services. They provide resources not available anywhere else downtown, but need additional space to deliver current and future service needs. Lazarus Ministries is housed in a historic United Methodist Church, which needs a great deal of structural repair.

How did you learn about this organization?
Throught the United Methodist Church.
What is this organization's top short-term priority?
Space to deliver the services and funding.
What is its top priority in the long run?
Evolving new and changing services to meet upcoming needs in the area. If soup kitchens are adequately covering the needs of the area, then Lazarus needs to be prepared to shift the focus of their programs to another area of need. The needs and priorities of the sojournors downtown are ever changing.
