THRIVE ALLIANCE
September 10, 2014

THRIVE's networking events are amazing. They are scripted so that you meet and have discussions with many people during the morning, but the special part is the opportunity to announce "a need". When attending one of these events, I announced a need of a nonprofit I was doing an Interim position at relating to starting a capital campaign when it didn't have stakeholders beyond participating families. A couple of people raised their hands, but someone with many many years of expertise in this area who I had not seen in quite a few years came over to me and offered to meet with the Board and give them some coaching and ideas. He came to a special meeting and spent 2 hours giving such important advice that we created a plan to do everything he suggested, began it all right away, and now this org has a head start on the key things to build a bigger constituency before beginning the capital campaign. Without THRIVE's event and the resulting opportunity to get such critical advice from the most experienced person in the area, none of this could have happened and this org probably would have failed completely to generate the funds they will need to build the new site! THRIVE's true unique and wonderful strength is this ability to connect people, that's for sure.

WAH MEI SCHOOL
August 5, 2014

Wah Mei School was the first bilingual preschool in SF 40 years ago and has always focused on an authentic experience for the children led and taught by native speakers in Cantonese and Mandarin who are totally dedicated to the children. It's a small school and very warm and individualized, with happy children everywhere.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help them to acquire a new larger facility so that more children could attend.

My New Red Shoes
November 24, 2010

My New Red Shoes is a wonderful organization that is focused on providing shoes and clothing for homeless children in the Bay Area as well as getting the community at large, especially youth, engaged in both understanding the issues or homeless children and helping to do something to make their lives better. It's a wonderful grass roots organization with a huge inpact!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've seen the faces and gratefulness of the children and their parents at Back to School parties where the children get their new shoes and gift cards. I've seen the volunteers helping out and feeling as if they got a gift too just by being there and helping. A true feel good experience.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help them to grow to seve more children and involve more youth in their mission related efforts.
