The American Anti-Vivisection Society
September 30, 2013

Reading over the previous reviews, I so agree with the one who said that she wished she lived in a world where organizations like AAVS are not necessary. Sadly, that world is a very, very long way away, and because we live in the world that we do, AAVS does critically important work in giving voices to animals who have none, who are completely defenseless and helpless against the rapaciousness of man. I discovered AAVS decades ago, and only wish I had been able to give more than I have been able to, because they are fighting the good fight to protect animals used so horribly in terrible experiments, most of them useless. AAVS is an eminently worthy organization which devotes itself to bettering the lives of the most wretched of our fellow animals: those cruelly used in experimentation, much of it for unnecessary items such as cosmetics. To think of all the millions of innocent animals sacrificed for the greed and vanity of the human animal, well, it boggles the mind, and makes me infinitely grateful to AAVS.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Get them government funding, or any form of greater funding.

GREY2K USA
September 23, 2013

There are so many bad things that happen to animals in our world, and I am so very thankful that organizations like Grey2K USA exist. If it were not for them, I might not ever have been aware of the plight of greyhounds and the "sport" of greyhound racing. Thank you Grey2K USA, and please don't let the nay-sayers get you down, keep up the good work of helping the animals and raising awareness in those like me who would know no better if it weren't for you.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make them better funded and more publicized so more people could find out about them.

Cat Connection
October 16, 2012

Just as everyone favors their children over everyone else's, I think my cats are absolutely the best in the world. So, although I'm sure there are many, many worthy animal groups out there, for me there can never be one better than Cat Connection because my 3 wonderful "Poozers" came from there. Cat Connection often rescues cats from their very last days at shelters, and now having lived with these amazing, magical creatures for 2 1/2 years, I never cease uttering fervent prayers of thanksgiving to Cat Connection for having snatched them from the very jaws of death. It also breaks my heart to think that there are so very, very many more of them out there, each one its own amazing wonderful little individual personality (of course none as great as the Poozers, but still wonderful!). The fact that Cat Connection is out there with zero money fighting to save as many as they can, and giving them a great interim home in the "Cattery" at Beverly Oaks Hospital where they can play and be uncaged, is a miracle on a daily basis. One of my Poozers got sick with a respiratory infection right after I brought him home, and they took him back and nursed him back to health free of charge. They also let me board all 3 there shortly thereafter when we had the hottest day in recorded LA history and my building had a days-long power outage. Despite their lack of funds, they helped me when I needed them, because for them it's all about the animals, and they will selflessly do everything they can to make sure no animal is left in need. Please support them in any way you can!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

A close friend and I both adopted "children" from this organization and had incredible experiences with them.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make sure they got grants or money in some form so they could do more of the great work that they do.

Friend's recommendation. She got her cats from Cat Connection as well.

What, if any, change in your life has this group encouraged?

I am always more mindful of animal organizations, how much they do for so little, and I try to give more accordingly.

Blind Childrens Center
May 7, 2011

My brother was born blind, and we moved here from Croatia shortly after his birth. We had extremely limited resources, and had the BCC not existed, there would have been no options for him or for us. To say that the BCC was a godsend for my family would be a massive understatement. We first came to the BCC more than 40 years ago, and although my brother's years at the center ended long ago, they have always been like family to us. My mother has served on their board for many, many years, and was president for a couple of those. I can honestly say that I have never met a kinder, more committed to doing good group of people than the angels who populate the BCC. I know there are so many others like us out there, who bless them every day and don't know what we would have done without them.

Blind Childrens Center
April 17, 2009

The Blind Childrens Center is a miraculous place, without which I cannot imagine my life. My brother was born blind, and spent his early years at the Center, where he was surrounded by so much love and caring that it enveloped my entire family, not just him. Although that was many years ago, our attachment to the Center has continued, and, we hope and intend, will forever. My mother served as the President of the Board and is still very actively involved in many aspects of the Center. Every time I visit, I am moved beyond words by the caring, kindness and professionalism there. Talk about the little engine that could!! Although they are indeed a small organization, they have the biggest heart I've ever seen, and take care of the children there with energy and love equal to twenty times their size. They are so very necessary to this city, where little blind children would otherwise have no recourse. I cannot think of a more worthy or hard-working or big-hearted organization.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

many of the children who have attended it, and their parents, whose lives were all radically improved as a result of their contact with the Center and its remarkable staff.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Keep it exactly as is, with the same exact staff, but try to get more money, of course!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Being humbled by the greatness of ordinary people doing extraordinary things all for the sake of helping little blind children.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

indescribably wonderful, kind, loving people who took great joy in their work at the Center.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand and help many more blind children, provide more state-of-the-art facilities, do more for the children, like for instance taking them on trips to experience more of the world.

Ways to make it better...

I would have spent more time there.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Lack of funds, especially during this recession.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Anyone who visits the Center comes away a changed person.
