BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF KERN COUNTY
September 3, 2010
My day job is as the Community Serivices Director for three radio stations serving Kern County and based in Bakersfield. I've done this for over 30 years and in that time have watched the Boys and Girls Club grow from a held-together-with-spit-and-glue building in one of the most economically depressed areas of Bakersfield to a shiny, new building that is the pride of its neighborhood. In the ensuing years, B&G Clubs have expanded to cover several of our outlying communities, areas that sorely need everything the Clubs can offer children, especially the self-confidence to move up and move out into the world and make a difference. I brag on those kids and the B&G clubs whenever I can. They do good work for kids that teeter on the brink, always looking for ways those kids can interact with our community. The children are often at-risk or from neighborhoods where gang activity is prevalent. Because of the B&G Clubs, the children now have a chance and choices. The Clubs and the children they serve are a welcome addition to my world and I'm proud to say that I'm an avid supporter.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
whenever I'm asked (or invite myself) to visit. My favorite center is in East Bakersfield on Niles Street, its their headquarters!

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
Volunteer & I asked if I could be part of a crew that painted murals inside the Club building and I also volunteered to help plant the landscape around the building.
