BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF KERN COUNTY
September 2, 2010
My husband and I started attending the Boys & Girls Club fund raisers in Bakersfield about 10 yrs ago. We always enjoyed the events and we admired the way the organization was represented. The positive energy we experienced knowing that we could help make a difference in our community by supporting an organization that really was about creating a healthy environment for kids was unbelievable. It became one of those things we looked forward to every year and an opportunity to support an organization that we believed in.
This year I joined the Boys & Girls Club ArtFest committee. Wow… to say that I was overwhelmed in the beginning would be an understatement. It took me a while before I could see the forest for all the trees. The members of this committee are incredible people, deeply rooted into the community, and their dedication to their cause is masked by no other. I have never been involved in an event of this size or with a group of people who are so capable of getting a job done. Although I am learning as I go, I hope to be invited back next year and be able to bring a little more to the table. It has been a wonderful experience for me and I take pride just being in the company of such dedicated community leaders.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Just seeing the ear to ear smiles on the faces of the young artist after auctioning their art work is rewarding for all. Talk about boosting self-esteem, they are absolutely beaming with pride.
