My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for New Phoebe House Association, Tacoma, WA, USA
New Phoebe House originally was a bit militaristic and top/down organization that struggled to keep addicts in line. After much inquiry and research we know that our residents are frequently survivors of multi-trauma abuse and require healing of those original traumas as much as they need sobriety and recovery. We provide an environment rich in support, skill building and mental health access so that our moms have maximum opportunity to heal and be healthy functioning moms and assets to the community. We have been surprised at the extent of the domestic violence our women have survived as well as the level of sexual abuse they have experienced. It's an honor and a privilege to accompany our residents on their journey to a healthier and happier life!
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the ability to assess what is needed for maximimum results, and freedom to create changes that support success.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Our staff and volunteers understand healthy helping, servant mentality, have fun, and do work that makes a difference every day.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Expand its physical capacity, provide more staff development, give the employees benefits, and be a powerful advocate for trauma impacted women and children. We could be a significant force in stopping the cycle of abuse.
Ways to make it better...
We didn't have a continual awareness of lack of financial resources. Our stress level as staff is increased by the organizational poverty. We use our own money to transport women and buy prescriptions.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Lack of visibility and lack of public awareness. We not only have to do work that is seriously stressful, we have to figure out how to keep the organization alive.
One thing I'd also say is that...
When I review my days on this planet, I"ll definitely be able to say I MADE A DIFFERENCE !!!!!!!!! :>)
