OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION
March 11, 2009

The Optimist International Foundation makes possible the several programs of Optimist International, a civic organization whose motto is, "Bringing out the Best in Kids." The Foundation's Executive Director is a true professional and has been able to increase donations and, most importantly, reduce the administration and fund raising costs as a percentage of donations.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the self esteme generated in young people who competed in oratorical contests and communications contests for the deaf and hard of hearing. I have also observed the genuine appreciation expressed by the young people and their parents as they were presented college scholarships.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

continue the work currently being done by our Executive Director. I would also try to find a way to get more of the current and past Optimist International leaders more actively involved in supporting the Foundation.

More feedback

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

working with my fellow committee members while training and planning, associating with my fellow Optimist members in encouraging gifts to the Foundation, working with the staff, and most importantly, my involvement with oratorical and CCDHH contestants.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

highly professional, dedicated to the program and hard workers.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

increase the amount of the college scholarships awarded to our communications contest winners.

Ways to make it better...

the scholarships given to winners of our various communications contests could have been larger.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

aging of the population that was originally attracted to this type organization and the struggle to "reinvent" ourselves to attract a new generation.

One thing I'd also say is that...

all involved in Optimist International programs- members, young people, parents - are rewarded by tremendous increase in self esteme.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
