Southwest Conservation Corps
May 23, 2010
This experience challenged me in ways that still allow me to grow and achieve new heights in my life, 5 years later. The very nature of the challenging work as well as the personal interactions have pushed me beyond my limits more than I could have possibly imagined. The work keeps getting more interesting and inspiring - We've come along way and grown so fast, the dynamics of the program keep expanding... With expansion comes a sort of mass production. There are pros and cons to it - pros being that our program works in the most beautiful remote places in the southwest. The work being offered is more meaningful and diverse. The cons being that I feel to a certain degree that SCC has lost the personal touch.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Personal results include goal setting and achievement/ physical endurance/ learning the ins & outs of office politics - occupational therapy!
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The connection with the natural world and the respect for a sustainable community
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
varied - from brillant to baffling, bashful to bizarre, buoyant but hardly ever boring
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
Volunteer & I helped to increase the marketing and visibility to ensure a sustainable operation within the communities we served. I also had field experience from the very beginnings of the program.
