My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for National Flag Foundation, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
I am the social studies supervisor for the largest school system in our state. I have been fortunate to have been involved with the National Flag Foundation whose mission is to provide eduacational resources to teach patriotic education. The NFF developed resource that we have become most acquainted with is the Young Patriots, an internet based multimedia program that is research based and historically based. It beautifully compliments our social studies curriculum and textbooks. As a curriculum supervisor, I saw Young Patriots as an opportunity to provide a valuable resource for our teachers that not only teaches social studies concepts but technology skills, cognitive skills, and character education. We have provided Young Patriots along with training to all of our 21 middle schools and 30 of our 63 elementary schools. I am convinced that if we as educators succeed at teaching our students respectful, responsible citizenship who have pride in their country, that not only benefits the student population but the community as a whole. Everyone benefits...which is the ultimate purpose of a well-rounded education.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
our social studies classes and during the training provided to our district in May, 2008 and June, 2007. Clark Rogers presented the material and was an excellent presenter. He is very knowledgable and passionate about patriotic education.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
not be aware of any changes that need to be made at this time.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Getting to know the people involved, namely Clark Rogers, who traveled to Mobile twice to train our teachers on this resource.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Passionate, knowledgable, and patriotic. They are authorities on the United States Flag and patriotic education.
Ways to make it better...
more teachers had been present. It is always difficult to convince teachers to leave their classrooms for a day of professional development. Even in a large system like this, attendance is always disappointing and students are the ones who miss out.
One thing I'd also say is that...
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the National Flag Foundation and Clark Rogers.
