This is a very rewarding place to volunteer. Not only does the organization remove incredible amounts of non-biodegradable material from our landfills, but it puts perfectly good medical materials into use in poor communities in the USA and in poor countries throughout the world. The sorting is done in a warehouse beneath the flags of all the nations that have benefited so far. Sorters can listen to music and chat with others in 3 hour sort sessions, and there is a break room with snacks and drinks. Everyone is super friendly! You don't need to sign up for a regular session, but can come to any session that fits your schedule.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

watching a container being packed for shipment to Equador.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

find a way to connect the poorest hospitals in small communities to each other or to charities, so that they could pool their resources and manage the low cost needed to ship container loads.

More feedback

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The neat people I meet during the sort sessions.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly and knowledgeable.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

make container loads available to even the poorest of communities and their hospitals.

Ways to make it better...

The warehouse were warmer in winter, but it is obviously too huge to heat!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

spreading throughout the United States so that hospital waste is better utilized.

One thing I'd also say is that...

It feels good to go to bed at night knowing that I am spending a portion of my time helping others!

MY ROLE:
Professional with expertise in this field & I helped to sort unused medical supplies. I happen to have experience in the field, but the sorting is set up so that people sorting need no familiarity with medical goods.
