Baltimore Woods Nature Center
April 27, 2010
It all began when my first daughter was three, and we found a beautiful and unusual caterpillar in our yard. We drove right up to Baltimore Woods Nature Center, and they welcomed us with smiles and books and helped us identify it. Having my children attend the summer nature camp for 8 years now, as well as other fantastic programs throughout those years, our family is full of gratitude for Baltimore Woods! Our experience has brought us a deeper awareness of many things: the night sky, vernal pools and spotted lizards, where maple syrup comes from, entomophagy, (the practice of eating insects as food), bird and animal identification, and even a special connection with snakes, thanks to Miss Hiss, the resident pet! Perhaps more importantly, The Nature Center has welcomed & encouraged us into its woods along its trails and streams, letting the natural surroundings seep into our very souls and help the children to be whole. Thank you Baltimore Woods!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Please see my previous writing.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Watching my kids grow up with an even greater environmental awareness than my own.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Helpful, enthusiastic, and resourceful.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
...Reach out to more families and children with its "Nature in the City" program. It could buy and maintain more land, increasing its availability to a greater population.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About every six months
When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
Client Served & I have volunteered a few times as an environmental educator, but perhaps more importantly, my children have been attending nature camp at Baltimore Woods for 8 years.
