Hanna Boys Center in Sonoma is a special place. As a volunteer board member, my assessment is naturally influenced by many years of personal experience and interaction at Hanna Center. This extraordinary residential school and treatment center -- and fully accredited high school -- provides education, hope and security for boys who feel they have no hope in life. Professional staff and educators inspire pride and accountability through spiritual guidance and a strong sense of family, in a challenging, nurturing environment. In sixty years of existence -- through residential treatment, classrooms, religion, scholarship assistance and dedicated follow-on contact -- Hanna has become the lifetime family for thousands of underprivileged and under-appreciated young men. Governed with transparency and fiscal responsibility by a board that is comprised of professionals in the fields of child care, financial planning, education, business, strategic planning and the law, Hanna Center relies on private donations, and not government or church funds.
