Swords to Plowshares
March 12, 2010
I didn't know what to expect when I arrived in San Francisco to work with Swords to Plowshares. What I did know was that they were a leading organization helping veterans to access their benefits, overcome addiction, deal with health issues and even get them into permanent housing.
What I didn't know was that Swords to Plowshares is so much more than all of that. I didn't know about the amazing legal team and all they really do for veterans. They have created a community among the people who go through their program and those who volunteer and work with them become a part of this community as well.
I appreciated their rules that created respect among the people in their community regardless of their individual differences.
I appreciated the humanity with which they treated every person.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
working with the veterans and seeing their determination.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
genuine, friendly and caring.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
expand it's current program to accommodate a lot more veterans.
