The Nature Generation

As a volunteer, I managed two annual Maryland high school environmental photo contests as well as helped with early fund-raising events when the foundation was launched. All of my work with Newton Marasco Foundation has been rewarding for me and appreciated by the foundation. For example, the photo contests allowed the foundation to build its relationship with the state of Maryland's Department of the Environment as well as opened some young minds to the beauty and fragility of nature. I strongly believe in the Newton Marasco Foundation's mission, dedication to its cause, and passion to make a difference - even in these hard economic times. I am a life-long volunteer for this group because I believe not only in the founder and her staff but in the person who inspired the creation of this foundation. Newton Marascco Foundation is genuine in its concern for the environment and in passing the understanding of sustainability to future generations. It has developed creative ideas for spreading it messages and reaching new audiences. My only constructive feedback is tap me more often for other work!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Reach out to volunteers, such as myself, more. There is untapped talent and ideas in the volunteer pool. While I'll be here when needed, others may not stick around. Don't let volunteers fall fall through the cracks.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with and talking to the young high schools students who took such beautiful photos of nature. I truly hope that some of them go or have gone into some environment-related college program or at least continued to appreciate and take care of nature.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Teach thousands of young people how to treat the environment with respect and truly understand what helps and what harms the environment. Inspire them to become future environmental champions and try to reverse the damage done by past generations.

I had received more follow-up and been asked to help more after discussing future opportunities and volunteering to participate in activities.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This is still a fairly young organization that is learning and growing but has a lot of heart and soul and it will continue to work really hard to be successful and make a difference.
