I have been involved with H-G for five years. The organization does an excellent job of providing quality entertainment to the local area throughout the entire year. Its programs reach all age levels of our community and range from youth choirs, drama camps and childrens' plays to cutting edge drama and comedy to "Acting Up" sessions for our more seasoned population (seniors). H-G provides the opportunity for both fledgling and seasoned playwrights to produce short plays that have a connection with the immediate local area. H-G also sponsors bus trips to large regional performing arts centers for a variety of plays. Volunteers are the backbone of this organization and therein, I believe, lies the Achilles heel of H-G. We have only two staffers who do not have the time to take care of everything that needs to be done administratively. Volunteers are available to perform many functions, but we struggle finding those who would be effective in the operations side of the organization.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the audience as a spectator, on stage as an actor, and behind the scenes as a board member.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The variety of people involved - blue collar, senier citizens, professionals, children, unemployed, retired, families, etc.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Top off the fund raising campaign to build a local performing arts center and hire additional staff to help with general operations.
