HOUSTON CHILDRENS CHORUS INC
February 24, 2010
I was in the chorus from 4th grade until 8th grade, and even then, I couldn't get enough of this choir. I was pushed by high standards to be a leader, to take care of myself and my peers, and to improve myself. Since the last time I was singing under the direction of Steve Roddy, I have found that my personal goals and expectations have exceeded that of my high school music program. After graduating the chorus, I was an Alumni rehearsal assistant and have helped spread music education to several young children. I have also been a chaperone on week-long trips, including Galveston, Atlanta, New York, and even China! The chorus provided my with many opportunities to see the world and make lasting friendships. Sure, we worked hard, but the satisfaction of seeing an elderly woman in tears and repeatedly thanking me for "spreading a beautiful gift" was such a reward that I wouldn't hesitate to join the ranks of a choir kid again. I love this organization that I refuse to think of a world without it. If I were to improve it, well, I guess that I would be more strict on the constant flow of new members and never settle for anything but the best.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The joy of performing, traveling, and meeting new people. Especially those who have never heard the chorus before.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Buy new music, provide more scholarship opportunities to children who wish to join but cannpt afford the tuition, hire more staff, and perhaps get a permanent building for rehearsal.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About every week
When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
Volunteer & Former member, rehearsal / Alumni assistant, whatever asked of me.
