Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester
February 14, 2010
I joined Pakachoag Community Music School, now known as Pakachoag School of Greater Worcester, as its second staff member after the original director back in 1982. From its very beginning and it continues through today, the school's major mission was to provide a quality music experience for students from infancy through senior citizens. To achieve this goal, only highly experienced faculty were hired. Even through its growing pains (lack of space, lack of funds) the school managed to maintain its highest quality standards. After four years, my career took me elsewhere, but when I returned as a member of the Board of Directors in the school's 25th year, I was amazed at the growth it had experienced and still maintained the absolute highest quality standards in music education. The current director has been with the school for approximately 18 years and is the most professional and dedicated person I know. My two-year-old granddaughter is currently enrolled in the Music Together Class and her mother insists it is the best possible experience she could be having at this time.
All one needs to do to experience these high standards is to attend one of the student or faculty recitals or an alumni concert. They speak for themselves.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
in watching my granddaughter ask for her Music Together CD to be played every day, sometimes several times and to watch her dance to the music in perfect rhythm.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
like to see the current administrative staff have more help, but the budget does not allow.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Watching it grow and move forward while maintaining its high standards.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
it would become renowned nationwide!
Ways to make it better...
I had not had to leave the school when I did. Unfortunately, I had no choice.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
as is with most non-profits, trying to function within a very limited budget.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About every week
When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
