FAMILY HEALTH CENTER OF WORCESTER INC
August 25, 2010

I love sitting in the waiting room at Family Health--not that I particularly like waiting for a doctor's visit, but I do like watching my fellow health consumers, noting that they come in all shapes, colors and ethnic backgrounds and knowing that we ALL receive the same high quality care from the staff at Family Health. I am treated with respect by everyone--the person who checks me in; the person who weighs me; the nurse practitioner/doctor who sees me; the lab tech; everyone! AND they are serious about helping me to become and stay in good health.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the way I have succeeded in becoming a healthy person.

FIRST NIGHT WORCESTER INC
February 10, 2010

This organization could simply be a New Year's celebration of the arts. But it has embraced a wider mission--that of introducing young and old, new immigrant or established citizen to the arts through community outreach, teacher training and participatory experiences during the year leading up to its big blast--December 31's celebration of the arts and of community. The organization is volunteer driven and responsive to the community. They have an outreach program "The Deaf Theatre Residency" that pairs Deaf and Hard of Hearing kids with professional D&HH;actor(s), students at Holy Cross College studying sign language, and FNW staff to experience the wonders of theater and cultimates in a performance by the D&HH;students at First Night. And that only scratches the surface. In addition, the board and staff of FNW have gone out of their way to make their celebration affordable--children 10 and under are given free admission to all of the December 31st performances and events; admission button prices are kept artificially lower than a movie ticket; sponsors are encouraged to purchase bulk buttons for local nonprofits and shelters...the list goes on and on. But most of all--First Night Worcester is FUN and brings neighbor next to neighbor on the streets of downtown and in many of downtown's historic buildings for concerts, theatre, art making, ballet, comedy, and much much more.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

watching over 100 students from the Worcester Public Schools sing, dance and perform in historic Mechanics Hall before hundreds of people and then later in the evening watching Eileen Ivers, internationally known artist perform in the same space!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the joy that this celebration and its yearround efforts bring to participants who otherwise might not have access to this kind of high quality arts experience.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

representative of the entire spectrum of the community.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

revolutionize the brand of the City of Worcester to be the city of the arts!
