SOME, Inc. dba, So Others Might Eat
February 1, 2010
After 35 years, I retired from the practice of law and looked for a place to volunteer my services for people in need. I contacted SOME and was told that they were in need of a basic math tutor for their C.E.T. program. I told them I would be happy to give it a try. Four years later I am still tutoring two days a week, approximately 3 hours per session.
I primarily tutor the trainees in the building maintenance program. For me this has been a particularly rewarding experience and based upon feedback from the trainees, I believe it has been equally rewarding for them. I have seen trainees learn or re-learn basic math skills which has permitted them to obtain rewarding employement and to become responsible citizens in the Washington, D. C. area.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Working with people who have never met with success in any endeavor in their lives and to see them succeed in this program.
