Review for TERRE HAUTE HUMANE SOCIETY, Terre Haute, IN, USA

Rating: 2 stars

The organization is not fiscally responsible. The board of directors do not abide by the organization's by-laws. While the euthanasia rate is impressive, often the results of temperament tests on the dogs are ignored so that the animals can be sent to rescue.Volunteers are often made to feel unwelcome.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Seeing safe, ADOPTABLE animals find homes either thru shelter adoptions or rescue.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Many caring people but the inability of a couple of the board members to refrain from micro-managing creates a situation difficult to work in.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Find a new location and build a new facility with an adequate ventilation system and outside area for the dogs to get fresh air, exercise, and play space. Hire an executive director to act as liasion between shelter director and board of directors.

Ways to make it better...

I had been treated better by staff and board members and if the board would operate based on their by-laws.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

A couple of board members who have a private agenda and no knowledge how to lead an organiztion.

One thing I'd also say is that...

When first build, the shelter was out in the country. It is now in the city and surrounded by homes. The neighbors complain about the barking dogs when they are left outside. If a new facility is to be built, a new location needs to be found.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
