Review for California Writers Coalition, Encino, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

CALIFORNIA WRITERS COALITION is a truly great nonprofit! I joined this club awhile back. I've been to other community outreach / literary networks around town, so I've a basis for comparison. And the Writers Coalition is well attended and professionally run, with celebrity guest speakers, expertly led critique groups for all level of writers - and what I like best - the networking socials and mixers where you can chat face-to-face with other writers, agents, publishers, directors, etc. This inspires the CWC audience commit to personal growth and to contribute to the culture of their community. This group is helmed by the Pulitzer-nominated, Scott Sonders, and has had guest speakers like Kevyn Lettau, Kate Gale, David Titcher, and Steven Bochco of Hill Street Blues fame. The CWC-SFV also sponsors a monthly OPEN MIC where one might showcase a work-in-progress and get the support of other caring, literate individuals. The CWC is a 501-c3 non-profit educational foundation, providing networking opportunities for all levels of writer. Members: http://www.calwriterssfv.com/home.htm

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that the CWC truly serves to improve the education & culture of its community. Life is better when art flourishes.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

generous, educated, helpful and useful.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

create phenomenal educational and cultural opportunities for a community that would otherwise be under-served.

Ways to make it better...

the CWC had better funding, allowing it to further their community outreach goals.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding, funding, funding!!

One thing I'd also say is that...

the Writers Coalition is truly a grassroots organization. All the volunteers work from their heart. So their giving and love is direct.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
