Review for Family Promise Of Lawrence Inc, Lawrence, KS, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've been involved with Family Promise since it was just an exciting idea. We asked for nothing from the city except to let us do our job. It's the faith congregations who put the petal to the metal, so to speak. These fantastic volunteers put in countless hours planning and organizing their host/support weeks and seeing that the week is fully staffed. The Board and Executive Director are equally dedicated and skilled. Valerie is truly impressive, working with volunteers while encouraging and motivating the guests to a new level of responsibility in overcoming obstacles and meeting whatever challenges they face. It's a privilege to be part of this great organization.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

knowing I've made a small difference in the problem of homeless families because my small difference went into the pool of hundreds of other small differences made by others. Working within my own church, which combines with the efforts of all the others

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

so loving and caring. They go out of their way to think of ways to make guests feel loved and special.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

hire additional staff and expand the day center.

Ways to make it better...

I can't think of any better experience.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

helping as many families as possible because the need is so great.

One thing I'd also say is that...

helping the poor has always been Jesus' call to His followers. I can't think of a better way to answer that call.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Volunteer & I do paperwork all the time. When my church is the host congregation, I help with meals and visiting with guests.
