My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for The Jewish Congregation of Maui, Kihei, HI, USA
My husband and I found this treasure by chance after a cruise. The Rabbi and members were warm and welcoming. Friday it's Reform, Saturday Conservative and the Rabbi is ordained Orthodox and is Shomer Shabbos so all feel accepted. I have been to Chanukah celebrations up in the town of Makawa where many non Jews come to enjoy the food and singing. Not only is this the Jewish presence on Maui but it is also involved with the local community. I especially appreciate that each week I hear all the news and a drash by the Rabbi via email. This full service congregation needs all the help it can get to continue the many vital and enjoyable programs it provides - from ritual to folk dancing. At least once a year I visit to "restore my soul."
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The Rabbi and his wife, services and emails
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
warm, compassionate, of good humor and extremely helpful as well as knowledeable
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
expand services to the west of the island and upcountry with additional staff
Ways to make it better...
I could attend more often
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Lack of sufficient funding
One thing I'd also say is that...
Compared to many synagogues I have been a member of (6) this is the best and I proud to be an associate member. If I could afford it I'd be there every week!
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About once a year
