BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES INC

This company is horrible, their management needs a serious overhaul. Their only requirements to work as a "counselor" is only a high school diploma and to be enrolled into an accredited addiction studies program. I am sorry but this is absurd, there are people with serious mental health issues that a high school diploma and a couple of classes just can't fix. They need to raise the bar when it comes to hiring counselors but instead they are just trying to save a buck!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would raise the bar, and hire counselors who have gone through rigorous training, internship under supervision, and education / full certification.

Disgruntled Employee - I have proof of working without getting paid, Its called subpoenas and the Labor Board. BHS Caminar System shows employees charting after their scheduled hours and their paychecks don't reflect these hours. I am sure this company started off with the right intentions, but somewhere down the line it lost it's way and became big business. So sugarcoat all you want. The facts are, I didn't get paid for hours worked. I called BHS, H.R. for help with the pay issue as well having to work under stressful conditions, for example, I was scheduled to be at two sites approximately at the same time, I received continuous harassment from my supervisor, as well as threats towards my job if I didn't meet a certain number of billing hours per month. You see the billing is their cash cow, they find ways to maximize it, such as returning to community sites that were already recently visited for no reason other than to rake up more "billing" hours. While on my second visit with an EAP counselor that I went to for help, I was fired, this is called retaliation, and it is illegal, you cannot fire someone for getting help due to stress, heck, I was referred to the EAP by BHS, H.R., go figure. Throughout all of this, I tried to take the higher road, and did not retain a lawyer. I only asked for a very small reimbursement, giving them the opportunity to right their wrong, but unfortunately BHS H.R. refused to pay, so I had the Labor Board make them pay up much more than I initially asked for. The minute I Subpoenaed Their Caminar records, they paid out A.S.A.P. and all of sudden, I wasn't taken lightly anymore. Also, I was threatened with letters from an agency hired by BHS trying to discourage me from applying for Unemployment Insurance. I applied anyway because I refuse to be bullied, and as I waited for an Administrative Law Judge to review my case, BHS withdrew their case at the last minute, literally the last minute! So, if you call an employee that is upset because he did not get paid for services rendered, disgruntled, you are correct, because disgruntled means dissatisfied or discontent. Lastly, let's get one thing straight, I am sure there are good counselors that work there who do make a difference in peoples lives, but to see them have breakdowns, and for them to say to me, watch out, I have seen what this company has done to people, this is what I stand up for. It is upper management that I am addressing, and if the head is on backwards then the body doesn't walk straight. Henry, I tried to talk to you numerous times as I was going through my dilemma, and you chose to duck and hide from me. Now all of a sudden you have something to say, you refused to have anything to do with my concerns then, so how is that you have something to say now. I will leave you with this passage from the Bible: 1 Timothy 5:18 NIV reads: β€œ Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and β€œThe worker deserves his wages.”

LOS ANGELES CENTERS FOR ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE
August 9, 2013

I worked here for about 6 months. There are so many violations here, it is unbelievable. I reported my findings to their upper management and they fired me. It is very difficult to find a legitimate place to work in the drug and alcohol rehab field. After there was no corrections made on their part, I had to report them to the Los Angeles County Probation Department due to how they ran their Domestic Violence Program. Their Medi-Cal is a mess, and they bill the state for pizza parties or have the clients watch T.V. instead of group time. They give out free sign-ins and so on. I continued to warn their upper management about numerous violations, even after I was discharged I continued to warn them, but they don't care. OH well, I tried.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Close it down, until a state auditor inspects all their sites.

This company threatens their staff to meet billing requirements or they will fire them. Very stressful company to work for, also they cheat the CARE voucher system by over billing for services rendered. Employees work overtime without pay while the upper management rakes in the dough. There was a special recently on CNN about fraud in the rehab business, while working for BHS, I observed a lot of unethical practices, After reporting my concerns to their HR, I was fired. I hope this place is investigated. After the news broke about the "Rehab Racket", I will stayed tuned in. They are supposed to basically set up a dragnet and look into all rehab centers in California. If this place passes, I will know that their investigation was either sloppy or they intentionally overlooked it. The proof is in their paper work and systems. I know for a fact there is proof of not paying their employees over-time in their CAMINAR system. This system cannot be altered due to "file integrity", it time stamps files entered, so if someone enters a note at 8pm but was off work at 5pm. they just worked 3 hours without pay and the system reinforces that proof. There own system catches them!!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Have them pay their employees, have them stop threatening them with their jobs, and provide the allotted time for the drug presentations that schools in the community deserve, through the CARE voucher program. I will also overhaul their management team and root out all fraudulent activity / staff.
