I am a member of this organization. The mission of the GSDF is: When ordered by the Adjutant General, provide an organized, trained, disciplined, rapid response volunteer force to assist state and local government agencies, and civil relief organizations in impending or actual emergencies to assure the welfare and safety of the citizens of Georgia. We provided assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, we provided assistance when Barnesville, GA was devasted by a tornado. We particpate in search and rescue missions. We assist in training soldiers preparing to deploy to various combat zones, etc. Our soldiers are volunteers who do not receive compensation for the work they do in support of the citizens of GA.
