What a wonderful organization. In one morning we installed Onil stoves in the homes of four very grateful Mayan families. We were also introduced to the NGO's student sponsorship program. For only $20 a month, one can (and several of us did!) provide the resources for a child to attend school for one year: registration fee, uniform, necessary supplies, school shoes, and tennis shoes. Contact with the child can be maintained at mayanfamilies.org. Countless opportunities exist for improving the living conditions of people in the Panajachel area through this nonprofit. Spanish-speaking volunteers are always needed. Why not give it a try?
