One Heart Source provides an incredible volunteering experience. I volunteered with the organisation in 2010 and am still volunteering with them today. The organisation offers a wide range of activities to take part in, depending on where your interests lie. However, the underlying focus is always on education, whether this be at nursery school, primary school, secondary school or the community level. For me, one of the best parts of volunteering with One Heart Source is the opportunity to live with a host family for 4 or 6 weeks (in Zanzibar). This enables you to become part of the community you are working within, and gain a better understanding of the people who live within this community. There are also opportunities to continue working with OHS as a volunteer staff member, which provides useful experience for those looking to work in the NGO sector. One Heart Source is a fantastic organisation and I would recommend it to anybody looking to volunteer in the education sector within sub-Saharan Africa.
