I volunteered with One Heart Source the summer of 2012 and I absolutely loved my experience. One Heart Source aids marginalized communities by providing them with health and basic education in the community. One Heart Source sends university volunteers to East and South Africa to educate in the schools and the community. Since day one when I arrived I was immediately emerged into the Zanzibarian culture (I stayed on the island of Zanzibar off of the coast of Tanzania). I lived with a home stay family where they were very friendly and welcoming. By the end of the program I was speaking Swahili quite well and I was very close to my home stay family. I would definitely go again with One Heart Source next summer. The work we did was meaningful, it had results and after I left my kids to return home, more volunteer arrived to take the place I left behind. These kids were not being left alone. Which is why this non-profit is so effective; they go for long-term results rather than short-term results.
