I worked for RMIAN as a volunteer for only a few months, but they are a great organization doing important work. They give legal rights presentations to immigrants being held in the for-profit detention facility in Aurora, a service that otherwise would be denied to the detainees, as they are not guaranteed representation by the law. Most of the detainees don't speak English and don't know what's happening to them or understand their choices. RMIAN provides a wonderful service in making sure that people in this situation know their rights and options. Furthermore, RMIAN connects those with a legal right to stay in the U.S. with pro-bono lawyers who then represent them in court and help secure their right to stay in this country. It is a great organization with a dedicated and compassionate staff, and now that I no longer have the luxury of volunteering, I try to donate to them whenever my budget allows it.
