My husband and I traveled to Tanzania in August 2008 to spend two weeks at the AHEAD vocational school. We were able to observe the classes, chat with the teachers, and also helped establish a small library. The AHEAD school provides opportunities for children whose parents cannot afford secondary school, and does so on a shoestring. The dedication of the teachers and principal was impressive. Dr. and Mrs. Irving Williams are extremely caring people who have been active in Tanzania for several decades and know how to work with their African colleagues to get things done in a collaborative way. They are especially interested in helping girls and women to assume leadership roles, and have been very successful in promoting outstanding women. Their activities in the field of immunization and public health are also outstanding. Recently they have been able to raise money to transport donated hospital equipment and also to purchase specially adapted motorbikes with sidecars, so that pregnant women in rural areas can be transported to medical facilities. We highly recommend supporting AHEAD, Inc.
