Baker is an amazing place which gives an opportunity for real work to several special segments of the work force. For physically and mentally challenged workers who are not otherwise able to work in the competitve world, it provides a caring and "safe" place to realize their capabilities, socialize with others, and earn self-esteem as well as a paycheck. For recovering substance abusers , ex-offenders and homeless individuals, Baker provides a supportive but structured environment where they can get a fresh start, develop good working habits and begin to build a resume for future jobs in the "real world". Volunteering at Baker for 11 years has been very gratifying, and I have watched so many people overcome their hurdles to develop into contributing members of the company and of their communities. If you can spare some time every week or only every now and then, this is a place to check out!
