First and foremost, this wonderful organization provides "great Classical Music" ( of all genres) accessible to ALL and for Free, throughout the summer ! Regardless of age, background and income, this delighful bit of culture nutures community participation, is easily available and engaging. Did I mention it is Free? In addition, Rush Hour Concerts (RH) has initiated a pilot outreach program (Part II) to engage younger audiences in city schools (currently Providence -St Mel ). Collaborating with the artistic talent of musicians and staff, this program hopes to provide city students with hands on, up close and personal experience with the musicians in developing, making and appreciating music; perhaps even providing an alternative to gangs. More... RH has Make Music Chicago; joining over 460 cities and 110 countries around the world in a global musical festival of sorts. Participation included over 450 musicians of all ages, experience and genres, with 40 arts, cultural, and educational organizations and institutions participating from neighborhoods throughout Chicago and suburbs, all making and performing their music throughout the day. Although, I am very new to RH and it's board, the more I learn about this organization, the more I believe that once everyone experiences RH, they too will embrace and support Rush Hour Concerts.
