GLOUCESTER-MATHEWS FREE CLINIC
June 24, 2014

Recently the Gloucester Mathews Free Clinic moved into a new facility (an existing building renovated) and changed its name to the Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic. A patient speaker at the grand opening said the name change was very appropriate as the volunteers and staff really care. that has been my experience there as well.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Get everyone involved in fund raising so they would have money to hire more staff and pay off the mortgage that is on the new building.

GLOUCESTER-MATHEWS FREE CLINIC

The numbers are amazing. In 2012 the Clinic served over 2,000 patients,301 volunteers donated 11,636 hours of their time, the pharmacy filled 29,701 prescriptions, When brokered services are added to those provided by the Clinic almost 13 million dollars worth of medical, pharmaceutical, dental and specialized services (surgery, urology etc.). The clinic is about more then numbers, it is about saving peoples lives, helping to get a chronic condition under control, providing the medicine that allows the patient to return to work, taking care of that broken tooth and educating the patient about their chronic condition.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Move to a larger facility (this is about to happen) Raise more funds to pay employees more hire more staff

GLOUCESTER-MATHEWS FREE CLINIC
April 5, 2013

The Gloiucester Mathews Free Clinic is the health care safety net fornearly 2,000 adults in Gloucester and Mathews counties in VA who have no medical insurance and whose income is at or below 200 % of the poverty level. the Clinicis a good investment in the community. In 2012 over 3 hundred volunteers gave 11,600 hours of service. This included doctors, nurses dentists, pharmacists and support staff.During that same time period.29,701 presciptions were filled and adding toghther the services the clinic provided directly and those they brokered on behalf of their patients over 13 million dollars of service was provided to these patients.
Thats a phenominal figue and it becomes even more significant when one realizes the clinic is currently housed in an 1,100 square foot facility that is in disgusting physical shape. Hence the Clinic is in the process of trying to complete a 2.5 million dollar campaign to purchase, renovate and equip an existing building that well allow for services to double and in some instances triple. I am proud to be an investor in this organization.

GLOUCESTER-MATHEWS FREE CLINIC
October 25, 2012

The Gloucester Mathews Free Clinic began in 1998 in a less then 1,200 square foot building designed a a doctor's office. The first year we served 200 patients by 2011 that number had increased to 2,000, still in that same building which is now in deplorable condition. There is no space in the clinic not used two or three times over, closets have been literally been converted to offices. Yet within that space the Clinic provided 11 million dolllars of medical, dental, and pharmacy services last year to uninsured indigent patients living in the counties of Gloucester and Mathews.Despite the conditions people coming to the Clinic are treated with respect and compassion. I have been a volunteer at the Clinic since it opened and have seen the difference it has made in people's lives. Utilizing a stong volunteer base, including doctors and nurses etc we are able to provide at least seven dollars of service for every donated dollar. The Clinic is a good investment for our communty. Last year 250 volunteers donated almost 12,000 hours of service and many of the volunteers have been with the clinic since it opened. There is so much that I wish I could share, so many stories that would touch your heart, information about the dedicated volunteers that would make you proud, and the savings we create for the community as we divert individuals from the emergency room and provide them consistent quality care on an ongoing basis. Thee Gloucester Mathews Free Clinic may opertae in a small facility but it's impact is huge! We are by the way in the middle of a 2.3 million dollar campaign to purchase, renovate and add on to an existing building. The place where patients will beseen will be different but the same quality care will follow us from one building to another.
