Refugees International
October 29, 2012

RI ia a small independent advocacy organization that looks at both forgotten refugee and displaced persons situations as well as the most topical ones, like the Syrian refugee crises today. It brings the voices of the victims of war, discrimination, religious and ethnic persecution to US audiences and to members of the United Nations. Now over 30 years old, it has attraced a diverse and committed group of volunteers nnd professional staff to push against compassion fatigue and business as usual responses by aid organizations to higlight the protection needs of displacd families. The passion and dedication of its staff is truly amazing. Funded entirely by private funds, RI darss to speak truth to power - and has pushed the issue of the world's 12 million stateless people to the agenda of the US government and the United Nations. It is a small organization with big clout in raising the alarm for peopl at risk.

International Lifeline Fund

ILF believes in utilizing technology and community education to improve the lives of the poor. It invests in research and development to improve the fuel efficient stoves it produces utilizing local workers and materials so that these products are durable and efficient. ILF makes a difference in aiding the lives of women in Uganda, Haiti and Kenya to spend less time gathering firewood or fuel for cooking. That means that the time and resources saved can be used for other family needs, like child rearing and education. In Uganda it has brought clean water to over 200 villages and trained local Water user Committees to care for and maintain their new water sources.
