CIRCLE LODGE-CAMP KINDER RING OF THE WORKMENS CIRCLE INCORPORATED
October 18, 2012

As a child, I attended Camp Kinder Ring. As a teenager and young adult I worked there (as did my wife). Now I am lucky enough to have my children attend Kinder Ring. A few years ago, I joined the Board of Directors as a volunteer because I wanted to give back to Kinder Ring as much as it gave to me as a child. It is simply a special place. The children get to enjoy an incredible summer camp experience, with sports, swimming, games, and camaraderie, while at the same time being exposed to the most important of Jewish values, traditions, and experiences. The religious aspects do not overwhelm the programming, but rather enhance it. At a time in the world where our children are so busy with their education, extra-curricular activities, and family obligations, what often gets a bit left behind is the positive reinforcement of the best parts of our culture and an opportunity to appreciate the values that are important in life - things like helping others, community, the environment, social activism, and justice. Camp Kinder Ring is a place where a summer of fun, games, sports and friendship meshes perfectly with the things that a parent would want their kids to have exposure. If you were to ask my kids, there is no greater place on Earth than Camp Kinder Ring. It is truly a great non-profit organization!

I first became acquainted with Mission 4 Maureen when I was running my family's foundation to find a cure for brain tumors. As we learned more about the incredible help they provided families facing this dreaded disease, we realized the importance of what they do. In the brain tumor world, and in the cancer world generally, there is a lot of money raised for research and for trials. There is money raised to help pay for expensive treatments. However, it is nearly impossible to pay for all of the "side effects" of treating one's brain tumors - the costs to get child care help, the choice between making a mortgage payment or paying for a treatment that is not covered by insurance, the financial burden of car services to and from necessary appointments. These things are hugely important to a family fighting this disease. Friends and families around you are often generous, but it does not fill this hole. Mission 4 Maureen recognizes this and is one of the few organizations I have found to help with this. I have been fortunate to meet with and speak to a number of people who have been helped by Mission 4 Maureen. They acknowledge that if they did not receive assistance from M4M, they would never have been able to fight the fight that was needed to save their life. If you are looking for a non-profit that fits the description of "great" - Mission 4 Maureen is the one to choose!
