Not only is this volunteer organization successful in raising money for Alzheimer's Disease research, it educates and raises public awareness of this devastating disease through it's traveling art exhibits. I recently saw their "From Heartbreak to Hope" quilt exhibit in Portland, OR and saw and felt the impact this illness has on people's lives, not only from the Artist's Statement, but also from the comments of others viewing the exhibit. Just as cancer was referred to as the "C" word in the past, Alzheimer's today is often the "A" word. People are often afraid to talk about it openly. AAQI gives names and voices to those impacted by this illness.
