Beagles and Buddies
May 17, 2013

I adopted my first beagle, Bone-Jovi “Buddy” Boo in 2007, after losing my BFF (beagle friend forever) Crawford to cancer in March, 2005. I was actually at the dog pound looking for a dog to adopt and just happened to see Beagles and Buddies in the parking lot that day loading about a dozen dogs into a truck, all of them were on the list to be destroyed that very day but instead, Beagles and Buddies was there to rescue them. The dog I was interested in adopting from the shelter was among those rescued. I went to B&B the next day to adopt the white and blonde gal but immediately connected with Buddy (formerly Google) who was running about the grounds, playing with his pals with a personality that I could not resist. I was so impressed with this rescue group that I decided to become a volunteer and have since adopted 2 more Beagles one of whom was 9 when I adopted him, now going on 13. I have seen first-hand that unlike some non-profit, no-kill rescues who only rescue “marketable” dogs, Beagles and Buddies routinely rescues those who are wounded, ill or elderly as well as those Heinz 57 mixes…many of whom may never get a second chance because they are disabled or not pure bred. This rescue group is honest and sincere in its consistant efforts to rescue and rehome shelter dogs and adopt them to the most befitting home. If a dog is not adopted it will stay at the sanctuary for life, hence the small pack of seniors living it up in their golden years in Apple Valley. Many lives (in the thousands) have been saved since it has been established and many more continue to be saved by the energy and efforts Beagles and Buddies. I pray for more funding support and volunteers join in this effort, especially B&B's new neighbors in the Apple Valley community, so that this shelter continues its operation for many more years to come...how many more lives will be saved as a result?!!!. Thank you. - - Kathryne, Buddy, Scooter and Cricket.---- "We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less because of that missing drop." -Mother Teresa...

DUSTYS RIDERS
October 10, 2012

To partake in Dusty's program is heartwarming and touching in many ways. My most memorable experience is the day I watched a child so fearful of being near a horse for the fist time that he refused to walk inside the coral with his friends to greet Dusty. As his friends embraced the experience of feeding, brushing and leading Dusty themselves, his desire to experience the same fun and connection with Dusty slowly developed, enough that he trusted his friends who encouraged him to join them. Not one of them teased or pushed him to do so. These young children proved to have a level of maturity and understanding that one sees little of nowadays at such an age. Throughout the day his self confidence and trust grew. He cautiously walked in the coral with Sarah and experienced volunteer, T, by his side. That day we all shared in our hearts the hope that he would overcome his fear. With Sarah, T and Dusty's patience, the change unfolded gradually before our eyes. By the days end, he had fed, brushed and ridden on horseback for an hour on the trail and expressed that he wanted to return again for another outing. The transition in this young boy's level of self confidence was magical to witness and an enlightening experience that everyone shared. After every outing I have worked I am grateful for the expressions of appreciation and thanks from the children that are shared with Sarah and us all. Their gratitude is truly sincere. What ever troubles the children face in life are forgotten during their time with Dusty. The memory of the experience goes home in their hearts to cherish and lift their spirits. Thank you Sarah and Dusty, for the touching and confidence-building experiences you create for children. ...Happy Trails, and tales, indeed! - Kathy
