My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Mayan Families, San Diego, CA, USA
My experience with Mayan Families was so positive and profound, I am telling all my friends and family members how important it is to volunteer and give back to the community. I worked as a photographer for 3 weeks in September of this year going into schools, documenting different programs which, Mayan Families provide for the indigenous population of Guatemala in Panachel. Witnessing firsthand the dedication of the Mayan Family staff as they provided (among many things) food and comfort to this group of people, pointed me in a direction of hope for the future of our humanity. This was my first experience of physically volunteering for an organization and it will not be my last. I think what I found the most amazing was the sense of purpose and dedication to the mission of "lifting people" from their many burdens. The commitment of all I encountered was inspiring- from the men who drove us to different locations, the volunteer coordinator, other volunteers as well as the director's and their assistant. I am the lucky one to have been involved with so many dedicated people trying to make a difference.
