Sense International (India)
October 16, 2009

Sense International (India) has made a quite outstanding contribution to the cause of deaf-blindness in India; and also to other parts of the global network of Sense International. Its' model of direct support to a few organisations to establish specialist units; along with training of staff in the special skills required; and advocacy at the national level on the issue of deaf-blindness, to the extent of the central government and many state governments being aware of deaf-blindness - all adds up to a very significant contribution. Well done.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

become a regional centre for Asia - promoting the cause of the deaf-blind, even more within India... but more importantly to any number of other countries. And through its' Asian experience begin to contribute expertise to other parts of the world.

DEEPALAYA
October 16, 2009

My admiration lies in the fact that 15 years ago Deeplaya took the bold decision to develop their own identity and seriously start fundraising in India, knowing that one of their major international funders was likely to withdraw support. Support was withdrawn, but Deepalaya has more than survived. It has expanded its' work, reaching out to a much wider group of people and institutions in India and internationally, than previously; and is now much more widely respected for its services.
