They should be ashamed. They're using the same accounting tricks that the scammers use to try and avoid IRS scrutiny and fluff the numbers. They claim $41.6 million in "media ad value" within revenue and support and then turn around and list it within program services as an expense. That way, from a quick glance, it looks like they waste less of your donation than they actually do. The California Attorney General just busted Help Hospitalized Veterans for doing this (among other things).

Donate elsewhere. If you look at their 2010 tax return, they spent $8.2 million on vets, while paying the CEO $390,000, and paying the rest of the staff $3.3 million! They spent $3.1 million in fundraiding and advertising, and another $3.9 million in "other." What is "other?" Probably more money to management. Anyway, it looks like they only spend about $0.40 of every dollar on helping vets. I've given money to this group in the past, but have figured out you need to pay attention to what they're doing with your donation. I will be giving to other outfits in the future that get the lion's share of my donation to help those that put their lives on the line for our country.

Disgusting. After reviewing the latest tax return available on Guidestar, I'd like my money back. It's not a lot of money to some folks, but my $135 was intended to help vets - not be wasted. It looks like less than 10 cents on the dollar goes to help vets. These people should be in jail.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Spend at least 90% of money raised to help vets, not to raise more money.
