My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Persad Center, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, USA
I'm a former client, volunteer, and long time donor to Persad Center. Persad is an incredible resource for the LGBT and HIV+ communities in Western Pennsylvania. They offer mental health counseling, substance abuse services, services for individuals and couples in abusive relationships, gender transition programs, and a host of other services for our community. They offer a host of programs for youth to help them stay in school, stay off the streets, and stay healthy. Importantly, they offer free or subsidized care to people in need. I believe in Persad's mission and programs and will continue to do what I can to support them.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Personally, I was a client at the agency on and off for a couple years. The clinical staff is well trained, professional, caring, and non-judgmental. They are experts in LGBT issues and helped me a great deal. I've seen them help many friends through hard times and I don't hesitate to recommend them.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would love to see Persad Center move to a new building. Their current building, while centrally located, is in need of repair and upgrades. The agency appears to have outgrown the space and it's impacting the services they are able to offer to the community.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?
I'm a big believer in their youth-oriented programs. They have an after-school program aimed at helping LGBT kids to stay in school and feel connected to others like themselves. Their Street Smart program works with homeless kids to get them off the street and find them a safe place to stay, or even just a warm meal.
Why did you make your donation at this time?
I donate annually because I believe in their mission, their programs, their leadership, and their staff.
What would you tell others about this organization?
Persad Center is a unique and valuable community resource. They offer services that are difficult or impossible to find elsewhere in the region and it's important to support them.
