On June 20, I had the opportunity to lead a wellness workshop on medicinal herbal teas for Shanti's breast cancer clients. I wanted to provide the clients of Shanti with some easily accessible and inexpensive home remedies for some of the symptoms they regularly experience due to side effects of their chemotherapy treatment. There were so many interested clients that they had to offer the workshop in two sessions! The staff that coordinated the event even organized it so that all of the Chinese-speaking clients were together in one group with a translator to make it easier on me. The clients were so appreciative of the information I was giving and I felt completely supported by the staff. Shanti is a non-profit that gives offers support and health education directly to the people that need it most. I felt honored to be able to offer guidance to these receptive clients and to work with such a helpful and caring staff. I would recommend volunteering for Shanti to anyone that wants to make a difference in the lives of those with life-threatening illnesses in San Francisco.
