Review for United Methodist Children's Home of the North GA Conference, Decatur, GA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I began volunteering with United Methodist Children's Home approximately 1.5 years ago and have not know a more dedicated group of people to the work they throw themselves into for the children and families they have to support. I've folded T-Shirts, done mailings, organized closets and packed offices and look to be promoted to teaching sewing soon :) That's how Jane Howland and I have joked about it. She is the best - when it comes to volunteer coordinators that I've ever known. This facility as been part of my life since I was a child and it was only recently that I became involved and it has been oh so gratifying to me. I've been allowed to see firsthand how they have been instrumental in the success of the folks they are helping. Doing what I can has also been a help to me as well. Thanks United Methodist Children's Home of North Georgia! Pia Jerome

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

They do not have the money for this but a mobile riding unit would make it so I could do more and probably bring in others.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Oh my gosh, yes. New friends and just witnessing the fact that there are people - that most of us never realize are doing so much for those who have so little to help them get so much more. That we never know where we may find ourselves but knowing United Methodist Children's Home of North GA is there, I know whre I could go or where I could send others, if ever there was a need. They are like the angels without wings yet.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Complete and green!

Role:  Volunteer & fold t-shirts, stuffed mailers, organized mailer paperwork, organized closets, packed offices.

I've lived in Metro-Atlanta all my life and done a good deal of volunteering but outside the work that would be done for terminally ill children - this by far is the greatest organization that actually may be keeping children from "terminal". There can be no doubt that United Methodist Children's Home of the North GA are needed as an organization and truly doing the job with dedication, that makes me feel the same. The people working there have shown me that they are truly believing in what they do and the children and families get the very best they can work to get. They deserve more than a 5+. I am grateful that they are here to help! I've been able to work in various aspects of United Methodist Children's Home and been made to believe that what I do is the "best in the world" as the T-shirt folders or bag stuffer or organizer of closets.

Jane Howland has done such a grand job - I can't think of a thing.

Yes, I met people from across town that I may never have seen

Sad, but true, selfishly fulfilled, thinking I had done some grand thing
