Mission Honduras International has now changed its name to Franciscan Works, and hopefully the inspirations of St Francis of Assisi will give a guiding light. That light can come from the great empathy -- compassion of St Francis: Francis embraced the poor, embraced the leper; and ever after the ideal of naming any one and any thing as Brother-Sister has become a source of bonding and unity. That is the case with Franciscan Works, in its work in Liberia. The mission near Monrovia, Liberia, is called Liberia Mission Incorporated. The story is one of love. I have been there three times, usually around the month of January or February each year since 2010. Three times must be a charm, because when I arrived January 22, 2012, children of the mission were waiting for my arrival. I love them and they loved me. When I arrived, surrounded by over 100 children was an embrace of love, a hundred hugs all at once. So the embrace started with Francis has gone a llong way.
