My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Lets Help Kids, Chantilly, VA, USA
I consider myself very lucky to be a Board Member for Let's Help Kids. It is rare to find such a child-focused nonprofit working in such a grassroots fashion. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have seen great need in our communities for things beyond just the basics of food, shelter and clothing. And as a Stay-at-Home-Mother currently raising two small children, I know how important it is to provide an enriching environment for children to thrive. Let's Help Kids is unique, in that it provides the "extras" (meaning beyond the basics of food, clothing, shelter, etc.), which offer children enriching experiences. Sending children to camp in the summer, purchasing a musical instrument so that a child can play in the band, giving children birthday presents of toys so that they can use their imaginations, all of these things are part of what we do. We try to let kids be kids by providing them with these "extras" that other nonprofits do not do. I have found Rachel, our founder, and Jen, her Mother, to be incredibly inspiring. There are many opportunities for getting involved. I wish I were able to be involved in even more aspects of Let's Help Kids, but we are living abroad. Still, I am so committed to the goals and work that the agency does, I am trying to contribute as much as possible while a continent away. I highly recommend becoming involved with Let's Help Kids.
