Review for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 3 stars

I was lucky and got a great dog from this group. While most people that successfully adopt pets conflate the joy associated with that pet with the organization they got it from, that's not how I operate. When leaving reviews, one needs to at least try to be objective if they actually want their review to be useful to others. Since my wife and I first moved in together, we've been believers in "rescue" dogs. Each time we've needed to fill that space in our lives with a warm-furry, we've sought out local rescue organizations. In general, we prefer to be repeat customers of organizations we've found particularly helpful (but, you can't always be lucky enough to do that). While Lucky dog is good from the standpoint that they try to place the animals in their care into good homes, they are a very chaotic organization. Depending on which of their personnel you talk to, your home might be considered the "perfect" home or it might be considered a "dangerous" home. It creates a bit of "emotional whiplash". While other organizations seem to realize the pet adoption process should be a positive experience for all involved, I'm not sure this group gets that. The only reason I'm giving them as high a review as I have is more a matter of "they're better than a number of the alternatives": you don't immediately get the impression that they're all animal-hoarders in disguise (though some seem to exhibit those tendencies - probably what creates the spotty experience when working with them).

Review for Bully Paws Pit Bull Patriots Inc, Fredericksbrg, VA, USA

Rating: 1 stars

Dealt with this organization while trying to find a dog to replace a pitbull that had recently died. While I'm sure that this organization means well, they're also an organization that tends to lend support to the notion that some rescue organizations are thinly-veiled fronts for pet-hoarders: pets remain in their care inordinately long times; they're unwilling to place pets into realistic situations; many of the dogs they bring to adoption events aren't actually available for adoption.
