My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Boys Hope Girls Hope, Detroit, MI, USA
Boys Hope Girls Hope is an amazing organization that I have had the opportunity to work with for the last two years. Living in a city that is always showcased in the news for having the worst school drop out rate, highest foreclosure rate in the country and just being a negative place, the program is a beacon of light. They work with kids from elementary thru college to develop them, not just as young scholars but well rounded people. While there are many fundraising efforts in which the board of directors and committee members can partcipate in the most rewarding are the programs that provide direct interaction with the kids where you can make a real difference. Whether it's mentoring or tutoring you have the opportunity to see how you affect each one of the scholars and see them grow year after year, reaching thier full potential.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
What I have enjoyed most is how the staff is open to new ideas to make the program better is actively seeks out opportunites to better serve the scholars.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Nothing short of amazing. They are dedicated to these kids! In addition to the full time staff on hand the Americorp volunteers offer a unique perspective and the kids love them.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Build a borading school that would allow them to expend to truly meet the needs of the Metro Detroit community, increase their full time staff to include a full time grant writer, pyschologist & additional house parents on staff & develop a fund for grads.
Ways to make it better...
could not have been better.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Developing their brand so that it becomes more well known throughout the region. Right now with over 100,000 non-profits serveing the state of Michigan, often times the message of this great organization gets buried in the news of larger organizations.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
