My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Young Life, Colorado Springs, CO, USA
My experiences with Young Life range over a 25 year period. I have served as a volunteer with kids and later as a staff person. I have found that lifelong friendships are built between kids and adults that help some kids survive & thrive where otherwise they would have gone down dangerous dead end roads. Currently I work with poor, neglected and misdirected kids. I try to help young adults of privilege connect and care for these kids. I love how Young Life leaders enter in to kids lives right there on the street, at the skate park or in the tutoring classroom. I see lives change as a result of this "go & befriend" work. I see young adults who are learning to forsake a selfish life to care for teens who seriously need love & direction. Young Life builds mentoring friendship, not programs. So be ready to give yourself away in a good way.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
seeing kids who finally feel fully loved.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
dedicated, faithful, fun, learning and growing.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Reach more kids in the poorest neighborhoods.
Ways to make it better...
more people were willing to join in and volunteer to care for kids through Young Life
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
being more ethnically diverse in it's staff.
One thing I'd also say is that...
if you get a chance to go to a Young Life camp, GO, you will love it!!
