My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Healing Heroes Network, Inc., Palm Harbor, FL, USA
I am actually the mother of a medically retired veteran who is thankfully getting the treatment he desperately needs through Healing Heroes Network (HHN) as I write this review. I consider myself a client as much as my son is, as I am the one who found this wonderful non-profit organization online, in a a frustrated, desperate attempt to help my son. From the first contact I had with HHN, they provided hope that I had all but lost during the long ordeal of trying to find treatment. After speaking with Sarah at HHN, I initiated the application paperwork and have had the pleasure of dealing with her throughout the entire process. The whole approval and treatment plan came together within weeks and we actually had a lot of input regarding the treatment. I had been researching treatment centers online and come across one that had a veteran's first program included, as well as the other key therapies my son was in need of. HHN contacted the center and got them on board as a provider in HHN's network and they agreed to assist HHN and treat my son. He needed inpatient, specialized detoxification, (due to the high amounts of scheduled drugs he has been prescribed for almost 5 years), intensive residential rehab, and specialized Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, (PTSD), therapy to address the severe symptoms/scars of PTSD and survivor guilt he was experiencing and living with everyday. My son has been in treatment for about 6 weeks now and I cannot begin to describe the difference I hear in him when we talk...it's like night and day!! He has several more weeks to go before he'll be discharged, but I KNOW this treatment has literally saved his life...HHN has honestly given my son his life back. There are no words to express how important HHN is to our veteran's and their families. To be very honest, we have been unable to access the extent of treatment, (if any at all), that my son needed through the military, or the VA for that matter. I am horrified by this and certain that my son is one of too many more veteran's out there in desperate need of help that is simply not being made available to them through the military and VA.
How would you describe the help you got from this organization?

How did you find this group?
What, if any, change in your life has this group encouraged?
I cannot speak for my son, but as for myself, I feel very strongly that the treatment HHN has made possible for my son has literally saved his life and will make a huge difference in the family unit when he returns, as the stress level will be much less and we will all be better able to handle all that has happened. I also feel my son will be better able to cope after learning new skills and receiving the care he has.
