I made one donation to the National MS Society several years ago in memory of a colleague's father who passed away. I never had any intention of making another donation because I already support several other charities that are closer to me. For years I received the Momentum magazine in the mail a few times a year and when I finally had time to deal with it, I emailed them to ask them to take me off of their list. I included my name and address. I got an email back from the Publications Associate who informed me that they do not handle that and that I'd have to call a number to get removed from the list. First of all, to remove yourself from the list, they just need your name and address so if they had good donor management, she would have called that number for me and the matter would have been done. I called the number several times and the service they used was closed, so naturally I moved on with my day and didn't think of it until I received the next issue in the mail 3 months later. I looked back in my email and tried the number again. Closed again. So I wrote back to the Associate and asked her to please handle this for me. She sent a curt response that no she couldn't because she didn't have access to the list and they have more urgent things to do. That's nice, well maybe they'd have more money to hire more people if they weren't wasting all that money sending publications to people who don't want them. She copied someone from a local chapter on that, who sent me a nice email but also did not actually remove me from the list. So that was in August, and I just got my next edition in the mail today. Hence this review. At least this time when I called the service they were open and while they said I'll be removed, apparently I might still get the next one or two issues (which btw, equates to 6 months).
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
run it more efficiently and prioritize donor management.
